Gender based violence as a cause and consequence of HIV/AIDS is one of the most concerning issues within Swazi society. This concern has been described in detail in the former project carried out by NATICC (Gender based violence and HIV/AIDS - it's urgent!).
NATICC aims at confronting cultural practices, beliefs, and customary laws to promote gender equality and prevent gender-based violence (GBV) against women and girls in Swaziland. The program proposes a community based approach to address the inter linkages between GBV, cultural practices and HIV/AIDS. It seeks to empower, involve, motivate and stimulate local community participation at grassroots level to solve GBV and HIV/AIDS challenges and to offer psychosocial and legal support to GBV victims.
Within this phase of the program awareness is spread and legitimacy raised by providing trainings to traditional leaders, teachers, community based volunteers (CBVs), and church leaders. Another focus is the community-dialogue, in which the engagement of men plays a vital role in order to reach sustainable solutions to GBV problems.

Beneficiaries

The target groups are women, children and men affected by HIV/AIDS and gender based violence in the Shiselweni region.

Project costs and assistance by sahee

The entire project costs are CHF 540’000.–, whereas sahee takes over CHF 82’500.–.

CHF 82'500.- or around SZL 915'000 (for 3 years). Sahee stays in regular contact with the project manager and visits the project once a year.
