Fighting the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the world

Capacity Building for Adolescents: Integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights Education and HIV Prevention

Compassionate Swaziland is a young NGO and a new partner to sahee. Compassionate Swaziland was founded by concerned HIV+ mothers and fathers in January 2010. The HIV+ mothers and fathers were concerned about their children who are adolescents. There are no organizations in Swaziland providing integrated HIV prevention and SRH services to HIV+ and HIV- adolescents, despite the precarious situation in Swaziland: The HIV/AIDS pandemic continues to be a major obstacle to economic and social progress. With an overall HIV prevalence rate of 25.9 per cent (Demographic and Health Survey 2006-2007), Swaziland has the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the world.
To combat HIV/AIDS the project aims at promoting positive health seeking behaviors among adolescents. In order to reach this objective the following activities are planned:
1. Train HIV+ adolescents on treatment literacy
2. Train adolescents on STIs and HIV prevention
3. Train adolescents on implications for Gender Based Violence
4. Conduct debates/with in school adolescents on stigma and discrimination against HIV+ children and teachers.
5. Train HIV+ adolescents on HIV and Human Rights
6. Provide information on contraceptives to HIV+ adolescent teenage mothers.
7. Train HIV+ adolescents on peer counseling
